First Post/March 2025 Update
It's been a chilly March here in the Bay Area! It's still Pisces season, but it's been a heavy one. This week's Lunar eclipse in Virgo feels like it's interrupting and dis-regulating everyone around me, including myself. Went to a protest in downtown SF for Khalil Mahmoud today and it was good to be out there- stopping traffic, making noise and making sure the world knows this is not OK with us. This is all too much to process at the moment.
Projects Update:
I'm currently developing my thesis project, and getting excited about possible theoretical frameworks to implement in my thesis proposal.
Themes I'm working with are: Climate Change, Industrial Pollution, Disability and the Body, Land Indigeneity, Connecting the Body to Land, Motherhood/Mother Nature. The film is an experimental documentary: a portrait of my Mother's health as it is impacted by the increasing heat waves in the Inland Empire. It's also a portrait of the land of the IE. It is my aim to turn a loving yet realistic lens to it, as it is an area often overlooked/ignored. There is a long history in this area of environmental damage due to toxic waste dumping, industrial pollution, and corporate greed. I am finding there's a lot to uncover and also many themes I'm working with that I need to figure out how to bring together cohesively. This film will be shot in 16mm. The film itself will be exposed to the climate of the IE. I'll also be using Eco-processing techniques to develop the film.
I am excited to be working with various professors who are offering their points of view and support along this process. More updates will come as the project develops.
I am also in development of another short film with an Artist and dancer that will also be shot on 16mm. An exploration of embodiment and movement through the art of pole dancing. More on that soon as well!
Going to jump into some research on artist such as Ana Mendieta, who focused on this inextricable relationship between land and the body.
